I modeled in my sister's photography session yesterday, and I had a blast. I can see why people call art a drug. Any type of art is addicting. But that got me thinking; what is art? How do we define what is art and what is'nt? Is it by how a person chooses to express themselves, or how good they are at painting, drawing, or taking a picture? I beleived a long time that you were defined as a person by your talent with art. Not having a natural talent like my sister, or many people here on deviant art, I often thought that I would be a better person, that people would respect me, if I could just make that breathtaking drawing. And since I never could, it got me frustrated. I now know better. I know that having a talent does'nt mean you can do something perfecly at your first try. I know that being smart does'nt immediatly make you a snob. That it is up to you to decide if your an artist or not, not to the rest of the world, who will probably never give you an answer.

Pablo Picasso once said that a painting was an instrument of war. Artists do fight, but they do it with such elegance that they never come around looking brutal or inhuman. Some people will think artists are simply weak. I say they are the strongest out there, for they have always existed and will forver be. They also express more then anyone with only colors and certain tools.

I say you don't have to paint to be an artist, simply knowing how to look and respect art makes you one. And I must say, it was quite a relief dicovering that.
